It is important to clean your yoga mat periodically to get rid of the excessive sweating on your mat. This keeps it in good condition and extends its life span. It also improves your yoga experience as you would be working out on its clean mat all the time. It is healthier to work out on a clean mat and advisable to clean your mat as frequently as you can. The first step when cleaning your mat is to check the manufacturer’s manual for the guidelines provided. Depending on the material used in making them,  the manufacturers will most likely provide instructions on in the mats. It is safer to abide by these instructions as they are the best practices for your type of mat. They will extend the durability and also keep it in good condition. 

Use A Towel 

You should have a cleaning cloth or towel for cleaning your mat. It will come in handy if you need to just get rid of stubborn stains and not clean everything. You can wet the towel in a detergent solution and gently wipe or scrub the stain depending on how tough this thing is. Do this on all the areas with stains and then rinse the cleaning cloths and wipe gently. This will suffice for little stains. After cleaning with the towel, you should air-dry the yoga mat.

Use Your Washing Machine 

If you have not washed your mat in a long time, a washing machine is a good option to wash it thoroughly. You can put it in the washing machine and spin for some time. Then rinse it thoroughly and air dry it. This will take less time than having to scrub the mat manually. To make the process easier you can soak the math in warm water for a while before transferring it to the washing machine. This will help dissolve tough stains so that they can be removed easily in the washing machine.

 Yoga Mat: Wipe With Vinegar Solution

Before you thoroughly wash your mats, you should consider rinsing simply in a vinegar solution. You can give your yoga mat a quick wipe weekly with this solution instead of washing every week. It is not advisable to wash frequently as it may seriously affect the quality. You can wash it once a month or twice a month. However, you should wipe it every week to remove the stains and sweat on the mat. You don’t have to use soap or other cleaning agents for this. You can simply use this solution and wipe with microfiber towels for the best results. After cleaning with this solution, you should air-dry the mat also. 

In conclusion, good hygiene is important to make yoga enjoyable.  You do not want to expose your body to dirt in the process. Therefore, it is advisable to keep everything you use in working out clean. Also, cleaning your yoga mat helps keep it in good condition and makes it durable.
